In a stormy sky where curling white lines turn into waves, feathers and clouds, a dark, massive form hangs against light breaking from behind. Beneath it, a boundless crowd of countless tiny figures has gathered on a white ground; lit from behind, their long shadows stretch towards the viewer. Navy and green mountain ridges at the top and a pink, flower-like form at the left lend the scene a dreamlike air. The thickly worked surface gives the painting an almost relief-like presence. The artist's signature appears at the centre of the lower edge.
About the Artist
Raşit Altun (b. 1980, İzmir) graduated in 2001 from the Department of Visual Arts Education at Anadolu University's Faculty of Education and began teaching the same year. Altun has held a solo exhibition at the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History in the United States, and in 2015 and 2016 took part in the Turkish delegation's exhibition at the SNBA salon in the Carrousel du Louvre, Paris. Following the series "Mahşer" (Doomsday) and "Araf" (Purgatory), marked by an existential intensity, the artist opened "Sır" (Secret) at Istanbul's AKM in 2025, an exhibition of 50 paintings and 4 sculptures. Working in sculpture as well as painting, Altun continues to work in a studio in Eskişehir.
